Khurda: Police on Thursday rescued a lecturer and took him into custody for allegedly biting a student’s finger at Remamani College of Begunia in the district.
The lecturer, identified as Education Department HOD Asutosh Mohapatra, was sent on forced leave following serious sexual harassment allegations against him. His presence in the college on Thursday angered the students and they protested against it, following which he lost his cool and bit the finger of a student, sources said.
To maintain peace on the campus, Principal Dr Rashmidhara Mohapatra locked him up in a room and informed police.
The students also damaged his motorcycle.
Police took the lecturer into custody after breaking open the lock of the room and drove him away amid wild hoots by the students.
