Kolkata: The health condition of veteran Bengali actor Soumitra Chatterjee has deteriorated and he is reportedly not responding to treatments.
“Though his organs are functioning well, the platelet count has dropped and the level of urea and sodium in his blood has gone up,” Dr Arindam Kar, who is leading the team of doctors treating him at the facility, was quoted as saying by PTI.
Kar said that the 85-year-old is not responding to treatment despite the use of steroids and other prolonged efforts. His consciousness is little down compared to what it was 72 hours ago, he added.
Doctors were contemplating to take “some tough calls”, the news agency added.
Chatterjee was admitted to the hospital here on October 6 after testing positive for COVID-19. He was shifted to a non-COVID ITU last week after his swab samples tested negative for the virus.
