Angul: An adult leopard was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a cashew forest near a village in Odisha’s Angul district on Sunday.
As per information, the carcass was spotted by locals near Mindol village under the Dhandatopa range in the Athamalik forest division.
It is suspected that the leopard died about 6-7 days ago after falling into the trap allegedly laid by poachers.
According to sources, the local cow grazers spotted the decomposed carcass and informed the forest department officials.
However, the reason behind the leopard’s death is yet to be ascertained by the forest department officials.
Notably, several leopards have died in Angul in recent past because of traps or live wires laid by poachers.
Residents of Angul claim that the forest department is still in deep sleep, even though poaching has increased in the district in recent years.
