Balasore: Panic spread in a village of Odisha’s Balasore district as a leopard went on an attack spree and injured four villagers on Saturday.
According to sources, the incident took place in Gada village under Khaira block of the district in the afternoon. The first victim was Satyabhama Nayak of the village. She along with her husband Gananath Nayak and son was working in a farmland behind their house when the leopard attacked her.
As Gananath and his son raised a hue and cry, the big cat fled but not before severely mauling Satyabhama. On hearing the shouting, the villagers rushed to the spot and took critically injured Satyabhama to the community health centre (CHC) in Khaira. Later, she was shifted to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Bhadrak as her condition deteriorated.
Later, some villagers armed with fire and sticks came to the village street to drive away the leopard. But they could not find the animal.
On being informed, a team of Forest personnel from Kupari arrived at the village and started a search operation for the leopard. But they also could not trace the big cat.
