Bhubaneswar: A few days after filing an affidavit stating their intention to live together, Monalisa Nayak (28) and Sabitri Parida (27) have threatened to commit suicide, alleging harassment by the former’s parents.
The couple had been living together for the last five months and had fled to Bhubaneswar from Kendrapara on January 12.
Meanwhile, Monalisa’s father Antaryami Nayak lodged a complaint, alleging that Sabitri had kidnapped his daughter, on basis of which a case under Sections 365 and 295 of the Indian Penal Code was registered.
“Police rescued both them from Bhubaneswar and recorded their statements. During interrogation, both the women expressed their desire to live together and threatened to commit suicide if any attempts were made to separate them,” Pattamundai SDPO Ranjan Kumar Dey said.
Section 377 of the IPC was partially removed and consensual gay sex was decriminalised by the Supreme Court in September 2018.
