Karachi/New Delhi: Lashkar-e-Taiba’s financier and Hafiz Saeed’s close aide Quari Abdul Rehman was shot dead by an unknown assailant at his shop in Karachi on Monday.
Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), co-founded by Saeed, has been declared a terrorist organisation by the UN Security Council and most nations in the world, including India. The outfit was responsible for for the Mumbai terror attack of 2008 in which at least 168 people were killed. The US and the UN also claims that it had links with the Al-Qaida.
No wonder, a video clip of Rehman’s killing – doing the rounds on social media – has got netizens cheering. Some have even wished the ‘unknown gunman’ Happy Eid.
The video shows masked gunmen arriving at Rehman’s shop. One of them shoots Rehman, standing behind the counter, from close range. The LeT Financier collapses to the ground, dead. Another gunman kills a second person in the shop. A child, standing at the counter when Rehman is shot, is not harmed by the gunmen though.
The LeT is known to be close to Pakistan’s Inter Services Intelligence or ISI. Some believe that Indian deep assets are behind the killing, while others say that the ISI, under pressure from the US, is cleaning up house.
A few days ago, Saeed’s close aide Abu Qatal was shot dead in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. He was associated with multiple attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, including the June 9, 2024, attack on a bus carrying Hindu pilgrims in the Reasi district. Several pilgrims were killed in that attack.
