Bhubaneswar: The level crossing gate near Matiapada in Puri district was left wide open at around 7.25 am on Saturday as Puri-Haita Tapaswini Express chugged through the stretch.
The gateman is in the dock for dereliction of duty as he allegedly did not close the gate despite instructions from the station master.
According to sources, he put up two red flags but didn’t close the level crossing gate.
ECoR Chief Public Relations Officer JP Mishra said that the General Manager has ordered a senior officers-level inquiry into the incident. It would include heads of safety, electrical operations, signal and general operations departments, he said.
“We expect to receive the preliminary report by tomorrow,” Mishra added.
