Puri: Three women were rescued from drowning by two lifeguards in the sea in Puri on Thursday morning.
One of the rescued woman was identified as Nilabati Behera, a resident of Tihidi area in Bhadrak district.
Sources said Nilabati and the two other women were standing on the shore when a strong current dragged them into the sea around 6.25 am. While the other two went in a little distance, Nilabati was dragged to about 100 metres inside the sea.
On seeing this, a life guard, G Chakradhar, immediately jumped into the sea and brought the two women to the shore. He then again went into the sea and caught Nilabati. He then brought her to the shore with the help of a tube provided by another lifeguard, K Aziz.
The lifeguards then provided the women with first-aid.
