Paris: France President Emmanuel Macron on Friday asked some G7 nations to lift the export ban on raw materials needed to produce COVID-19 vaccines to India.
“I will take just one example, India. India, in particular Serum Institute of India (SII), has been blocked by export restrictions on ingredients needed to produce vaccines from certain G7 economies. Restrictions must be lifted so India can produce more for itself and quickly supply Africans in particular, who are dependent on its production,” Macron drove home his point.
The French President hoped that an agreement will be reached among G7 nations in this regard.
This year’s G7 summit is being held in Cornwall, UK, from June 11-13.
Heads of the member countries — US, UK, France, Japan, Germany, Italy and Canada – are expected to participate.
India, Australia and South Korea have been invited as guest countries. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will reach outreach sessions virtually on June 12 and 13.
