Balasore: Two persons, including a woman, were killed after being struck by lightning while working in a paddy field in Balasore district on Tuesday.
The incident was reported from Napa Village under Jaleswar block.
Earlier in the day, the India Meteorological Department had issued thunderstorm and lightning alert for 16 districts, including Balasore.
Following a surge in lightning deaths in the state, the government has formed an expert team to ascertain the reasons. Plans are afoot to create awareness to curb such deaths, official sources said.
