Porvorim (Goa): It was a red-letter day for Arjun Tendulkar.
The 23-year-old not only smashed his maiden first-class century, he emulated illustrious father Sachin Tendulkar’s feat of scoring a hundred on Ranji Trophy debut almost to the day, 34 years ago.
A fast-bowling allrounder, Arjun showcased his batting skills to score 120 for Goa, against Rajasthan.
Bat at No. 7, Arjun hit 16 fours and 2 sixes in his 207-ball knock to guide hosts Goa to 493/8 at stumps on the second day.
Sachin, the ‘God of Cricket’, had hit a century on his debut on December 11, 1988, playing for Mumbai against Gujarat.
Mumbai boy Arjun moved to Goa ahead of the current domestic season to get more match time in domestic cricket. He played junior cricket for Mumbai and also made the cut in the senior team in the 2020-21 season, playing just 2 T20 games in 2021.
Arjun made it to the Mumbai Ranji team last season, but didn’t a chance in the playing XI.
