Chennai: A 9-year-old female lion named ‘Neela’ died of COVID-19 while eight other lions tested positive for the virus at Aringnar Anna Zoological Park at Chennai.
A press release from the park said that the lioness died on around 6.15 pm on June 3.
“The lioness had been asymptomatic and showed some nasal discharge only the day before (June 2) and had been symptomatically treated immediately,” the statement read.
The park has 15 lions, so 60% are already infected with the virus. COVID test results of four lions are awaited.
