Bhubaneswar: After the death of two tiger cubs within a little over a month of their birth, a lioness died in Nandankanan Zoological Park near the city on Saturday.
According to sources, the lioness named Shyama had health ailments for the last three years. She had a tumour near one of its ears which was operated. Recently, she was experiencing pain in her anus as she had another tumour. She was under treatment by the Nandankanan Zoo authorities.
The lioness’ condition had turned critical for the last 7 days. Though veterinary doctors were keeping a close watch on her condition and carrying out treatment, she succumbed.
