Bhubaneswar: Litterateur and mother of Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak’s Nirmalprava Nayak passed away while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Odisha capital on Monday evening.
She was suffering from old-age ailments and was admitted to the hospital as her condition deteriorated about four days ago. She breathed her last around 9.30 pm, family sources said.
She is survived by her two sons and three daughters.
Nirmalprava was a teacher by profession and was conferred with the Sahitya Akademi award for her book ‘Sayanhara Smruti’. She had donated the cash award of Rs 1 lakh to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. The book was unveiled by former Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and also translated into English. She had also authored several other books and contributed to various magazines.
Wife former MLA Rajkishore Nayak, popularly known as ‘Patkura Gandhi’, she had been donating her pension money for the conservation of cows. She was inspired by freedom fighters Rama Devi and Annapurna Maharana.
