Bhubaneswar: Newcomers Konark Suryas Odisha (KSO) had punctured defending champions Manipal Tigers’ pride in the Legends League Cricket (LLC) 2024 opener at Jodhpur.
Exactly a week later, Harbhajan Singh’s Manipal Tigers looked forward to avenge their 2-run defeat in the first game at a different venue.
But Surat witnessed heavy showers on Friday, leaving the Lalabhai Contractor Stadium wet and soggy.
The covers were brought out to protect the pitch and outfield, but it was too late. Despite the best efforts of groundstaff, the umpires were forced to call off the game without a ball bowled.
Both teams were awarded a point each. KSO (3 points) are now second in the standings with a net run-rate (NRR) of +0.100, behind Southern Super Stars (3 points, NRR +1.463).
Skipper Irfan Pathan, his elder brother Yusuf and the other KSO players did turn up at the ground hoping for at least a shortened game. But it was not to be.
Konark Suryas Odisha will next be in action on Sunday, against Dinesh Karthik’s India Capitals.
