Baripada: Vehicular movement was disrupted on the busy road connecting Jasipur and Khiching in Mayurbhanj district on Monday as the locals staged a road blockade near Raruan demanding immediate arrest of a rape accused.
“The police have completely failed to nab the person who had raped a girl in the area on June 23. The protest will be extended to other parts of the district, if the police remain callous towards our demand”, one of the agitators said.
Though the locals in large numbers had gheraoed Raruan police station on June 29 demanding action against the person involved in the crime, no action has been taken by the police in this regard, the agitator added.
On being informed, a police team reached the spot and pacified the protestors on assurance that early and appropriate steps will be taken to nab the accused.
