Cuttack: Tension prevailed at Banki Chhak of Cuttack district on Thursday after a group of locals of Karabara village resorted to a road blockade to protest against sale of liquor in the locality.
Owing to the blockade, movement of vehicles was disrupted on the road connecting Cuttack and Banki. Hundreds of vehicles remained stranded on both sides of the busy road for several hours.
On receiving information regarding the protest, police personnel reached the spot and requested the agitators to withdraw it. They assured that their demand will be considered.
“Illicit liquor trade continue to flourish in the area. Despite repeated pleas to the district administration, no steps have been taken to stop liquor trade in our locality”, an agitator said.
They alleged that criminals are also creating frequent law and order problems in the area.
