Bhubaneswar: Alert locals foiled an attempt by some youths to loot an ATM counter in the city early on Saturday.
DCP Bhubaneswar Uma Shankar Dash said some youths armed with iron rods and screwdrivers had barged into an ATM of Indian Bank on Cuttack Road between 4.30 am and 5 am. They were trying to decamp with the ATM machine when some locals raised an alarm.
While the youths tried to run away, the locals caught one of them and informed police. A team from Laxmi Sagar police station rushed to the spot and arrested the youth, the DCP said.
Police later detained four others on the basis of the information provided by the arrested youth during interrogation.
According to the DCP, the five youths are residents of a slum in Laxmi Sagar area.
