Bhubaneswar: Residents of Suddha Sarangi village staged a protest outside Balianta police station on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar on Wednesday, alleging murderous attack on a man and demanding quick action against the accused.
The incident came three months after GRP constable Soumyaranjan Swain was killed allegedly in a mob attack on May 7 in the area.
The injured, identified as Lakshmidhar Swain, is reported to be battling for his life. The villagers, including a large number of women, claimed that they were forced to stage protest to demand immediate action as police are yet to nab the accused persons.
Questioning the role of police officials in handling the case, the protesters demanded the immediate arrest of those accused in the attack. They alleged that Lakshmidhar suffered critical injury after being attacked brutally. They said the accused had not been arrested despite the seriousness of the case.
The protesters gathered outside the Balianta police station and raised their demand for immediate action against those allegedly involved in the attack. They also sought to know as to why action had not yet been taken though Lakshmidhar is in a critical condition.
Police officials are yet to issue an official response to the allegations made by the villagers.
