Cuttack: Protesting the grant of license to a person to open a liquor shop in their locality, irate locals of Balu Bazar locality including members of Balu Bazar Puja Committee and Balu Bazar Yuvak Sangh staged a sit-in dharna at the Balu Bazar Square in the city here on Monday.
Though the district collector Sushant Mohapatra did not say anything before the media, he later said that keeping the demand of the locals, steps would be taken to cancel liquor license.
“The place where the district administration has decided to open a liquor shop has four educational institutions. Taking this into consideration, the district administration should not have taken the decision to set up a liquor shop by providing liquor licence to a person,” said a woman agitator.
“We have submitted a memorandum to the district collector, Excise Commissioner and informed the local police about the matter. If the district collector fails to meet us here and pays no heed to our demand, we will continue our agitation from Tuesday till our demands are met,” said another agitator.
