Cuttack: The death of a person allegedly in a road mishap sparked off tension in the city as the agitated locals set two vehicles on fire on Friday evening.
According to sources, the mishap took place while a garage mechanic was repairing a vehicle beside the road near his shop at Sankhatras under Cuttack Sadar police limits. A tipper going on high speed allegedly hit the mechanic, killing him on the spot.
Enraged by the incident, the locals and other shop owners of the area started vandalising the vehicles going on the road. They also attacked two Hyva trucks and set those on fire, the sources said.
On being informed, Cuttack Sadar police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. They have registered a case in connection with the mishap and sent the body of the mechanic for autopsy.
