Berhampur: A truck was set ablaze on NH-16 near Randa under Golanthara police limits in Ganjam district on suspicion of carrying beef on Sunday.
According to reports, the incident took place around 2:30 pm when the truck overturned on the highway. Seeing blood spots, some locals went near the truck and found meat in it. They then allegedly torched the vehicle suspecting the meat being transported was that of bovine.
Receiving information regarding the incident, police and fire personnel rushed to the site and brought the situation under control.
Meanwhile, activists of BJP, Viswa Hindu Parishadand Bajrang Dal also reached the spot.
Police have seized the vehicle, which was on its way to Andhra Pradesh and sent meat samples for examination.
