Burla: A mob of over 50 people staged a road blockade at Paradhanpali near Nuapokhari toll plaza in Sambulpur district on Sunday to protest toll tax collection on Biju Expressway.
“Collection of toll taxes on the Sambalpur-Rourkela Biju Expressway is unethical. We have been paying taxes for the National Highway-10 for the last 17 years. We will not pay any more road taxes on the route, which was officially inaugurated by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on March 12”, an agitator said.
The agitators warned that their protests will be intensified, if the authorities fail to consider their demand at the earliest.
Owing to the blockade, several vehicles remained stranded on the stretch for several hours.
On Saturday, a 12-hour bandh was observed by the members of Sundargarh Nagarika Manch demanding immediate exemption of toll taxes on Biju Expressway.
