Bhubaneswar: Agitated locals staged a road blockade after a mini-truck of Omfed hit an auto-rickshaw, injuring its driver seriously, in Bhubaneswar on Monday.
According to sources, the mini-truck was going on the busy Jaydev Vihar-Nandankanan road in the afternoon when the accident took place.
The auto-rickshaw, which was going ahead of the mini-truck, suddenly made a turn without slowing down and the truck driver could not apply the brake in time. As a result, the four-wheeler hit the auto-rickshaw from behind. While the auto-ricksaw overturned at the spot, its driver sustained serious injuries.
The local people rushed the injured driver to a local hospital. His condition was stated to be stable after the treatment.
The agitated locals gheraoed the truck and tried to pull its driver out forcibly. Meanwhile, the police arrived at the spot, pacified the locals and took the driver with them to Maitri Vihar police station. They registered a case and started investigation.
Meanwhile, the movement of vehicular traffic on the road was affected for some time as the local people staged a road blockade. They demanded action against the mini-truck driver and compensation to the injured driver of the auto-rickshaw.
However, the police managed to disperse the crowd peacefully and restored the traffic movement on the road without further disturbances.
