Bhadrak: An ATM thief was severely thrashed by the locals at Malada village under Bhandaripokari police limits in Odisha’s Bhadrak district late on Wednesday.
According to soures, Badri Narayan Dhal of Malada panchayat was returning home .when he noticed four persons standing outside the SBI ATM counter at Malada market at aroud 1.30 am and informed the police and the locals.
The locals rushed to the spot. While three among them managed to escape, another ran towards a nearby field. But he was overpowered by the locals, who then severely thrashed him.
On being informed, police rushed to the spot and took him into the custody for interrogation.
Police also seized a Maruti Omni vehicle (OD-22C-9302) which was parked at a distance of about 200 metres from the ATM counter.
Notably, some anti-socials had looted cash from the same ATM counter last month.
The locals alleged that the SBI authorities have not engaged a security guard at the ATM counter.
Meanwhile, Sadar SDPO Manoranjan Panigrahi visited the ATM counter for an on-the-spot investigation.
