Puri: A team of officials from the Airport Authority of India (AAI) began a location survey for a proposed international airport in Puri on Thursday.
According to reports, the AAI team was accompanied by Puri Collector Samarth Verma and Sub-Collector Bhabatarana Sahu.
The team visited a location on Puri-Konark Marine Drive where an airstrip was set up a long time ago. The team later visited another location at Sipasarubali near Girala on the Puri-Brahmagiri road.
During the survey, the district administration submitted a blueprint of the design and length of the proposed international airport.
Sources said the AAI authorities will send the blueprint to the Civil Aviation Ministry. The ministry will examine the viability of the two locations and then choose one of them for the proposed airport.
On January 1, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, proposing to set up Sri Jagannath International Airport in Puri.
