Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Friday collected fines amounting to Rs 17,600 from 88 lockdown violators across the city for not wearing masks.
A fine of Rs 200 each was collected from 44 persons in the north zone and 44 more from the south zone for roaming around the city without following basic guidelines.
According to BMC sources, Zonal Deputy Commissioner (ZDC) North Pramod Kumar Prusty was keeping an eye on the lockdown violators in his zone, while ZDC Rabindra Kumar Jethi was leading the team in south zone.
BMC, along with the Health and Family Welfare Department, had announced that a fine of Rs 200 will be slapped for three initial offences of violating rules and Rs 500 for further violations, under the Odisha COVID-19 (Amendment) Regulations and power conferred under the Sections 2 and 3 of the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897.
Bhubaneswar Municipal Commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhary had also announced that BMC will be dealing firmly with lockdown violators.
On April 22, the North Zone ZDC had collected a fine of Rs 8,000 from 40 violators for not wearing masks.
