New Delhi: Union Food and Public Distribution Minister Ram Vilas Paswan on Sunday allayed fears of foodgrains shortage in the country, informing that there is enough in godowns for nine months of PDS supply to over 81 crore beneficiaries.
So even as the nationwide lockdown, to contain the spread of COVID-19 pandemic, is set to be extended till the end of April, there is no cause for concern, assured Paswan.
The minister dished out the figures, saying that the Centre has 534.78 lakh metric tonnes of rice and wheat, whereas the monthly PDS requirement is 60 LMT.
He also said that the bumper rabi crop is a boost at this critical time.
