Lockdown Routines: I’m Brewing Up A Storm Of Activity, Says Purabi Das

Staying at home, necessitated by the nationwide lockdown implemented to curb the spread of novel coronavirus, has become a way of life for most Indians by now. Every individual has devised his or her way of adapting to the changed scenario.

Purabi Das, for instance, deals with the the “enforced inactivity, uncertainty and anxiety of the lockdown” by taking each day as it comes.

“I have created an artificial normal by doing what I usually do — brewing up a storm of activity,” says the joint director (public affairs), Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC).

Apart from cooking for family members and cleaning the house, she has two additional members in the family to look after. “We have two dogs who were abandoned by their families, so it means more of both activities,” Purabi says smilingly.

“I am not a morning person, so I do three sets of Surya namaskar and Pranayama in the evenings,” she informs.

The journalist-turned-public affairs officer has been helping her son complete his college applications in the US and also providing dole career advice to her nephew, besides arranging for masks and food for the electrical workers of OERC.

“I’m having to put our press notes on the Rotary effort against the virus since I am the District Public Image Chair,” Purabi informs.

She has been able to catch up on her reading as well. “I am now reading the ‘The Books of Jacob’ by Olga Tokarczuk. It is quite an absorbing and compelling read,” observes Purabi.

She has watched the movie ‘The Parasite’ on Amazon Prime, and adds that it’s an absolute must-see for all.

“I wind up at night with a bit of writing. So these days are no less busy and chaotic for me than the ordinary ones. I create my own world,” signs off Purabi.
