Bhubaneswar: Police have seized 1,355 vehicles from the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack over a period of 24 hours for violating lockdown rules.

It should be stated here that the lockdown in Odisha has been extended till April 30.

Police authorities have repeatedly asked citizens not to use vehicles to visit local markets or other places. They have also also been issuing warnings that those caught using vehicles without a valid reason will face stringent action.

But with some citizens not taking the instructions seriously, police have been forced to crack down on movement of vehicles. A total of 733 vehicles have been seized in Bhubaneswar and 622 in Cuttack over a period of 24 hours.

Violators have have also been fined Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,000 depending on the rules they have flouted.

Since the lockdown was implemented, Odisha police have seized 6,235 vehicles thus far.

The three-week nationwide lockdown is due to end on April 14. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet state chief ministers on Saturday to take a call on whether to extend the lockdown in the country. Odisha, however, has already announced the extension of lockdown till April 30.
