Loot Of Passengers With Sedative: Medicine Shop Owner Among 6 Arrested In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Saturday arrested six members of a gang including a medicine owner for allegedly looting people after giving them intoxicated drinks in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.

Speaking to mediapersons, Police Commissioner of twin cities Saumendra Priyadarshi said the gang used to target the passengers coming to the cities for the first time from distant places at bus terminus and railway stations.

On the plea of helping them, the gang members would offer the passengers food and drink laced with intoxication and later, loot their belongings. The sedative drugs were supplied by the medicine store owner.

After around 12 such cases were filed recently, the Commissionerate Police formed a special squad to nab the gang. Following investigation on the basis of the complaints and surveillance, they arrested the accused.

Police have seized three gold chains weighing 40 gram, one motorcycle and six mobile phones from the possession of the gang members. Two receivers of the stolen items have also been arrested.
