Looting In Bhubaneswar: Local Youths To Join Police In Night Patrolling

Bhubaneswar: Hours after assuring quick action against anti-social elements following four cases of looting and snatching in the Odisha capital on Tuesday, Police Commissioner Satyajit Mohanty had a meeting with the local youths of Mancheswar on Wednesday afternoon.

Talking to the media after the meeting, Mohanty said it was decided that the police would take the help of the local youths to trace the gang of looters. Besides, the local youths of Mancheswar will join the police in night patrolling in their area. “The youths will provide information about anti-social elements and their activities so that the police can act swiftly,” he added.

He further said that apart from the youths, the commissionerate police has also requested the people to immediately contact the police on the mobile number 8280338300 about any untoward incident in their area.

The announcement of the police commissioner seeking the cooperation of the locals speaks volume of the helplessness of the commissionerate police in providing safety and protection to the city denizens. This is what the police commissioner had admitted before the media after interacting with the agitating locals who had staged a road blockade on the National Highway at Rasulgarh in the morning demanding immediate arrest of the anti-socials who had brutally assaulted a hotel owner near the Rasulgarh square and two customers at a second-hand vehicle showroom on Bhubaneswar-Puri Bypass Road on Tuesday night.
