Bhubaneswar: Leader of Opposition Jaya Narayan Mishra on Thursday requested Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to declare ‘Puspuni’ as a local holiday in western Odisha.
“Pousha Purnima locally known as Puspuni is an annual festival observed by farmer families to celebrate their annual harvest of paddy. This is the second most important agricultural festival after Nuakhai observed with great joy with families and friends,” he wrote.
Stating that the festival falls on January 6, Mishra requested the CM to declare local holiday on this date in Sambalpur, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Boudh, Balangir, Sonepur, Kalahandi, Nuapada, and Athamallik subdivision of Angul.
