LoPAR Likely Over Bay Around May 11, Odisha To Face Thunderstorms For 5 More Days

Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area is likely to form over the Southwest Bay of Bengal around May 11 with little clarity about its possible impact on Odisha.

An upper air cyclonic circulation lay over Gulf of Mannar and adjoining Sri Lanka extending up to 5.8 km above mean sea level on Saturday (May 9). Under its influence a low-pressure area is likely to form over Southwest Bay of Bengal around May 11, a

senior weather scientist said.

Weather experts are of the view that the exact direction of movement, as well as the potential intensity and impact of the system, remains uncertain at this stage.

Forecast models have presented varying scenarios regarding the development of the system. While some models suggest gradual intensification, others indicate a weaker system with limited organisation.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), thunderstorm activity is likely to continue in many parts of Odisha till the morning of May 14.

The weather agency has issued an orange warning of thunderstorm accompanied by lightning, hail and gusty surface wind (speed reaching up to 50-60 kmph) over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Balasore & Bhadrak during the next 24 hours.
