Cuttack: It was unique marriage where the groom returned to jail and the bride went to her in-law’s house to wait for his return.
The marriage took place in Choudwar Circle Jail in Cuttack district on Wednesday.
As per sources, an inmate Nrusingha Das and Puja Das of Sankhatrasha village under Cuttack Sadar police limits were in love with each other.
The two wanted to marry but Nrusingha’s family did not agree with the proposal. Puja’s family members also called a village meeting to resolve the matter but in vain.
Meanwhile, Nrusingha’s family members started looking for a suitable bride for him. On learning about this, Puja’s family members registered a complaint at Sadar police station against Nrusingha.
Basing on the complaint, police arrested Nrusingha on September 28, 2019 and forwarded him to court. He is lodged in Choudwar jail since then.
However, Nrusingha never gave up hope and informed his family members as well as jail authorities about this.
After seeking permission from court, they got married in the presence of jail authority, family members and relatives.
Jail DIG Kulamani Behera, Jailor Abhinas Behera and members of NGO ‘Udhhara’ were present.
