Bhubaneswar: After 10 months of all those negatives of deprivation, disappointment and depression, time has come to bask in positives of happiness, love and enjoyment. The best opportunity to start is today, the Rose Day.
The Rose Day heralds a week of all the positive energy of emotions and feelings till the Valentine’s Day on February 14. The Valentine Week starts with Rose Day, followed by Propose Day, Chocolate Day, Teddy Day, Promise Day, Hug Day, Kiss Day, and finally Valentine’s Day.
On the Rose Day, you can shower love and affection on your loved one with affection by giving the flower symbol of love – roses.
Tiding over months of crisis, the florists in the city are also ready to start on a happy note as they have an ensemble of roses all colours in bouquets and baskets of different sizes and shapes.
“We faced loss during New Year. As colleges, schools, hostels and other educational institutions were closed, we did not have a good business. We expect that people will keep the bad times behind and start the life afresh on the Rose Day,” said florist Chandrasekhar Sekhar Dalai in CRP square.
“Every year, we used to sell flowers worth Rs 70,000 to Rs 80,000. This year we are expecting a business of Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000. We will sell a single flower for Rs 25 on Rose Day,” he added. He gets the roses from Bengaluru as he does not get enough from Odisha.
Another florist Kartika said, “I have been running my flower shop for the last 25 years. I have never faced such a situation (pandemic) before. I look forward to beginning of good times with Rose Day.”
“Every year, I used to do business worth Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000 by selling roses alone. I can only hope for the best this year,” he added.
“I have red, yellow, pink, white and fuchsia pink colour roses. I have brought these from Bengaluru and Raipur,” said Kartika.
Slowly but surely, life is gaining its momentum and buoyancy as people have started celebrating the occasion with a glee.
“I am overwhelmed by seeing these varieties of flower bouquets. There are so many colours of roses defining our emotions. I have picked a red rose for my beloved,” said Surya Kanta Jena, a city-based youth.
