Pharmacies and e-commerce sites are reporting an increase in the sales of condoms and contraceptive pills as India stays home during the 21-day COVID-19 lockdown.
Some experts are predicting a baby boom in December 2020. Also, experts have noted that the lockdown despite increasing anxiety has helped increase intimacy among couples who generally don’t find time to catch up with each other.
Pharmacies in New Delhi have reported increased sales of masks, Vitamin C, Chloroquin and condoms.
“In times of war and epidemics, intimacy levels go up among sexual partners,” said consultant psychiatrist at Delhi’s Sir Ganga Ram Hospital (SGRH) Rajiv Mehta told PTI.
“People are anxious and living at home. Couples, married or otherwise, who were too busy with their professional lives are now getting proximity and time. So intimacy will increase as it has increased during wars. This is a war-like situation,” Mehta reportedly said.
He explained that fatigue is a reason that married couples in big cities don’t have regular sex.
He, however, cautioned that too much proximity might lead to quarrels.
