Bhubaneswar: With the low-pressure area now lying over the northwest Bay of Bengal adjoining the north Odisha-West Bengal coasts, Odisha will continue to experience extreme rain till Wednesday morning, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Tuesday.
“The system is very likely to move west-northwestwards across north Odisha & north Chhattisgarh during next 2 days,” it said.
According to IMD’s special bulletin, heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is likely at one or two places in Balangir, Bargarh, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh and Deogarh till 8.30 am on September 21. Yellow warning for heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) has also been issued for one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kalahandi, Boudh, Angul, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj during this period.
Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) will continue at one or two places in Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Balangir, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, and Sundargarh in the subsequent 24 hours.
Squally weather with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40 to 50 kmph is likely along and off Odisha coast and northwest adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal during the next 24 hours. Fishermen have been advised against venturing into the sea during this period, it added.
