Low Pressure Over Bay To Trigger Heavy Rain In Odisha; Red & Orange Warning Issued

Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday informed about the formation of a low-pressure area over Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal coasts under the influence of a cyclonic circulation over Northwest Bay of Bengal.

“It is likely to become more marked during subsequent 24 hours and move west­northwestwards across Odisha,” it said.

After the timely arrival of the southwest monsoon on Thursday, the Met Office had said that the low pressure would trigger widespread rainfall activity with isolated heavy to very heavy and isolated extremely heavy in Odisha till June 14.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at a few places with extremely heavy falls at isolated places in Kandhamal, Boudh, Kalahandi, Balangir, Nayagarh, Sonepur, Khurda, Puri and Jagatsinghpur.

Orange Warning (Be prepared)

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places in Ganjam, Cuttack, Angul, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Nabarangpur, Nuapada.

Yellow Warning (Be updated)

Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places in Rayagada, Gajapati, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Dhenkanal.

June 12

Red Warning (Take action)

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at a few places with extremely heavy falls at isolated places in Nuapada, Balangir, Sonepur, Bargarh, Kalahandi, Boudh, Sambalpur, Angul and Nabarangpur.

Orange Warning (Be prepared)

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, and Deogarh.

Yellow Warning (Be updated)

Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places in Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Khurda, Puri, Gajapati and Ganjam.

June 13 

Orange Warning (Be prepared)

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places in Nuapada, Bolangir, Bargarh, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur and Jharsuguda

Yellow Warning (Be updated)

Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places in Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Koraput, Kalahandi, Boudh, Angul, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore and Deogarh.

June 14

Yellow Warning (Be updated)

Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places in Jharsuguda and Sundargarh.

Squally weather with surface wind speed reaching 40 -50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is very likely over the central Bay of Bengal adjoining North Bay Bengal till June 12 and along and off Odisha coast and North Bay of Bengal adjoining west-central Bay Bengal from June 11 to June 14, it added.
