Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange warning for Puri and Khurda districts till around 2 pm on Thursday.
Moderate rain/thundershower with lightning and one or two intense spells of rain may occur in some parts of Puri and Khurda, including Bhubaneswar, within 3 hours.
Light to moderate rain/thundershower with lightning is also likely in Cuttack district during this period.
People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places to protect themselves from lightning strike.
At 10.30 am, the weather agency had also sounded orange warning of moderate rain/thundershower with lightning and one or two intense spells of rain for Nuapada, Balangir, Bargarh, Sonepur, and Kalahandi districts. Light to moderate rain/thundershower with lightning was also expected in Koraput, Puri, Rayagada and Kandhamal within 3 hours.
This has come amid forecast about possibility of a fresh low pressure area over Eastcentral & adjoining North Bay of Bengal during the next 12 hours. The system is likely to move west-northwestwards close to south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh coasts during the next 2 days.
The IMD has warned of extremely heavy rainfall in Odisha on August 30. Isolated heavy rainfall may also occur from August 29-31 with very heavy rainfall on August 29-30.
