Bhubaneswar: Odisha is likely to experience heavy rainfall activity under the influence of a cyclonic circulation, which is expected to intensify into a low-pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal, adjoining areas of Jharkhand and North Odisha during the next 24 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Wednesday.
Orange warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) has been sounded for one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Koraput, and Nabarangpur districts till 8.30 am on Thursday. Heavy rain (7 to 11cm) may also pound one or two placesin Malkangiri, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Angul, Boudh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Balangir and Sonepur.
Bhubaneswar is likely to experience cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers.
The weather agency has warned of temporary waterlogging in low-lying areas and underpasses, poor visibility during intense spells of rain and traffic congestion in urban areas. There is also a possibility of some damage to unmetalled roads, mudslides/landslides in vulnerable hilly areas and wall collapse of mud houses, besides vegetables and horticultural crops.
The intensity of rain is likely to gradually decrease thereafter.
On August 8, heavy rain warning continues for one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sonepur and Balangir districts. There is a warning for heavy rain at one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur and Deogarh during the subsequent 24 hours. Heavy rain is also likely in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Deogarh districts on August 10.
While there are no further warning, light to moderate rain/thundershower may continue at many places across the state till August 13.
