Bhubaneswar: Odisha is likely to witness extreme spells of rain for two days under the influence of a low pressure over westcentral and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh and south coasts of the state, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Friday.
According to the midday bulletin, the system is likely to become more marked during the next 36 hours.
While several districts are likely to experience heavy rain till September 13, orange warning for very heavy rainfall has been issued for some places on September 10 and 11.
Very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Khurda, Nayagarh and Cuttack from 8.30 am on September 10 till 8.30 am on September 11. Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nuapada, Bolangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Nayagarh, Puri, Khurda and Ganjam may experience similar weather conditions from 8.30 am on September 11 till 8.30 am on September 12.
Squally weather with gusty surface wind speed reaching 45 to 55 kmph is also likely over westcentral Bay of Bengal adjoining north Andhra- South Odisha coast on September 9 and along & off Odisha coast and north-west adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal from September 10 to 12.
Fishermen have been advised against venturing into the seas during this period.
