Bhubaneswar: With a fresh low-pressure area taking shape over Bay of Bengal, heavy to very heavy rain with thunderstorm activity may lash several parts of Odisha in next five days.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in a special bulletin an upper air cyclonic circulation lay over northeast Bay of Bengal & adjoining Myanmar coast. Under its influence, a low- pressure area is likely to form over north Bay of Bengal during next 24 hours.
In next 24 hours, heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Rayagada, and Koraput. A yellow warning has been issued for these districts.
Similarly, thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, and Ganjam.
On Sept 2-3, an orange warning of heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph was issued for the districts of Malkangiri, and Koraput.
Yellow warning was issued for the districts of Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Gajapati, and Nuapada.
Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Balangir, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj,Sonepur, and Boudh.
On Sept 3-4, an orange warning of heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph was issued for Nabarangpur.
Similarly, heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind may occur at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Balangir, Sundargarh, Bargarh, and Jharsuguda. Yellow warning was issued for these districts.
Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Boudh, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, , Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Sonepur.
On Sept 4-5, yellow warning of heavy rainfall and thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind was issued for the districts of Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, and Sambalpur.
As sea condition is likely to be rough amid squally weather, fishermen are advised not to venture into North and West-central Bay of Bengal and along and off Odisha coast and deep sea area of North and West-central Bay of Bengal till September 3.
