Bhubaneswar: The low-pressure area formed over south Andaman Sea and adjoining south-east Bay of Bengal is likely to become a depression during the next 48 hours and intensify further before moving North-Northwest.
“Under influence of cyclonic circulation over south Andaman Sea & neighbourhood, a low-pressure area has formed over south Andaman Sea and adjoining SE Bay of Bengal. Associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 4.5 km above mean sea level,” the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre said in its mid-day bulletin.
It further said that the low-pressure is likely to become more marked over the same region during next 48 hours and concentrate into a depression over Andaman Sea and adjoining SE Bay of Bengal. “Thereafter, it is likely to intensify further & move North-Northwest,” it added.
In the subsequent 24 hours, it is likely to become a cyclonic storm ( Amphan) and move towards Bangladesh-Myanmar coast, according to various forecasts.
Meanwhile, the regional centre has issued yellow warning for several coastal and interior districts of Odisha till May 4.
Thunderstorm is likely to occur at coastal districts and Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Kandhamal and Khurda on Friday. Normal rain may take place at one or two places over the north-coastal districts and Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Gajapati, Nabarangpur and Ganjam on May 2.
On May 3, thunderstorm is predicted for coastal districts and Kandhamal, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.
On May 4, thunderstorm with wind speed up to 30-40 kmph is likely to occur over Balangir, Sonepur, Kandhamal, Boudh, Nayagarh, Khurda, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Ganjam, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Kendrapada.
