Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area has formed over Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining Andaman-Nicobar Islands, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Tuesday.
The system is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression over Westcentral Bay of Bengal around November 16. The weather agency also informed about another upper air cyclonic circulation over southwest Bay of Bengal.
“Under the influence of the upper air cyclonic circulation over Andaman-Nicobar Islands and adjoining areas of Andaman Sea and Southeast Bay of Bengal, a low-pressure area has formed over Southeast Bay of Bengal & adjoining Andaman-Nicobar Islands. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a Depression over Westcentral Bay of Bengal around November 16. Another upper air cyclonic circulation lies over southwest Bay of Bengal extending up to middle-tropospheric levels.”
Under their influence, light to moderate rainfall may occur at many places with isolated heavy rainfall over coastal areas of Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha on November 16, it added.
The regional centre here had earlier predicted light to moderate rain in Odisha on November 15 with the intensity of downpour increasing on November 16. Yellow warning has been issued for November 16 and 17.
NOVEMBER 15
Light to moderate rain/thundershower may occur at a few places in Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Puri, Jagatsinghpur and at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Khurda and Cuttack districts
NOVEMBER 16
Yellow warning of heavy rain issued for one or two places in Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Kendrapada, Bhadrak and Cuttack districts.
Thunderstorm with lightning may occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Dhenkanal and Mayurbhanj.
Light to moderate rain/thundershower is also likely at many places places in Ganjam, Khurda, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Bhadrak and at a few places in rest districts of coastal Odisha, Mayurbhanj, Rayagada, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal and at one or two places in Keonjhar, Angul, Boudh, Malkangiri and Koraput.
NOVEMBER 17
Yellow warning of thunderstorm with lightning issued for one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Khurda, Puri and Dhenkanal.
Light to moderate rain/thundershower also likely at many places in Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar and at a few places in Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Angul, Puri and at one or two places in Boudh, Sundargarh, Ganjam, Deogarh, Khurda and Nayagarh.
NOVEMBER 18
Light to moderate rain/ thundershower may occur at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak and Jajpur districts.
Dry weather will prevail thereafter. There will also be no large change in the minimum temperature at many places in the state during next 4-5 days, it added.
