Bhubaneswar: A low pressure area formed over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of West Bengal and Bangladesh on Friday morning, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
Under the influence of the cyclonic circulation over south Bangladesh & adjoining Gangetic West Bengal, a low pressure area has formed over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of West Bengal and Bangladesh in the morning, it said.
Associated cyclonic circulation extends up to mid tropospheric levels tilting southwestwards with height.
The system is likely to become more marked and move west-northwestwards across Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand during next 2-3 days, the weather agency said.
As per the weather agency, there is heavy to very heavy rains at a few places with isolated extremely heavy rain is very likely in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj and Kendrapada.
Heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places in the district of Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Deogarh & Angul. Heavy rain very likely at isolated places in the district of Dhenkanal, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack.
Poor visibility and disruption in traffic is likely to be experienced during intense spell of rain. Low-lying areas may encounter water logging, and roads/drains may be submerged under water.
In view of the weather forecast, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has directed the Collectors of the districts concerned to keep administrative machinery ready to face any eventuality. They have been asked to keep the drains/ stormwater channels de-congested, and adequate de-watering pumps may be deployed as per requirement. Movement of vehicles and people on overtopping roads/bridges should be restricted.
