Bhubaneswar: A low pressure area formed over the Bay of Bengal on Saturday, raising the likelihood of heavy to extremely heavy rain in several parts of Odisha, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
The low pressure area has formed southwest Bengal and adjoining north Odisha under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation over the same region.
Stating that The low pressure area developed at 8.30 am on August 8, the IMD said the associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level and is tilting southwestwards with height. Under its influence, extremely heavy rainfall is expected to take place at isolated places over parts of north and west Odisha.
It may be noted that the IMD has issued a red alert of heavy to extremely heavy rain for Mayurbhanj for today.
Similarly, an orange warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall has been issued for some places over the districts of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, kataka, Sundaragada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, Sonpur, Boudhagada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamala, Gajapati and Ganjam.
