Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area formed over east Equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal at 8.30 am, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Saturday.
“It is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression over central parts of south Bay of Bengal around November 25. Thereafter, it is likely to move northwestwards towards Tamil Nadu-Sri Lanka coasts during the subsequent 2 days,” it added.
The weather agency has forecast isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on November 27-28 and isolated heavy rainfall on November 29. Isolated heavy rainfall may also occur in Nicobar Islands on November 23-24, Kerala & Mahe from November 26 to 29 and Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam & Rayalaseema from November 27-29.
In Odisha, light rain/thundershower is likely at one or two places in Ganjam and Gajapati districts on November 27, Ganjam, Gajapati, Malkangiri, Koraput, Puri, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapada on November 28 and Koraput and Malkangiri on November 29.
The IMD has warned of shallow to moderate fog at one or two places in Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Sundargarh and Keonjhar till November 25 morning.
In the last 24 hours, G Udayagiri again recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 8.5°C in Odisha. The hill station in Kandhamal district had recorded 8°C, 7.4°C, 6.2°C, and 6.6°C in the last four days.
Most places in the state saw a slight rise in mercury levels last night. Phulbani saw a degree rise at 11°C, Semiliguda in Koraput recorded 11.2°C against 8.7°C from the previous day, followed by Koraput (11.3), Daringbadi (11.5), and Rourkela (12.2), which also experience dense fog this morning.
The mercury, however, dropped below 16°C in Bhubaneswar for the first time this season. The state capital recoded 15.4°C compared to 17°C the previous day. Cuttack recorded 16.5°C.
The night temperature across the state is expected to rise by 2-4°C after 2 days, the MeT office added.
