Bhubaneswar: The low pressure area, which formed over Northwest Bay of Bengal off West Bengal-Odisha coasts on Tuesday, is likely to trigger very heavy rainfall in Odisha till September 21, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed.
“Under the influence of the cyclonic circulation over Northwest & adjoining Central Bay of Bengal, a low pressure area has formed over Northwest Bay of Bengal off West Bengal-Odisha coasts. It is likely to move west-northwestwards across North Odisha and South Jharkhand during next 2 days.”
On Monday, the weather agency had issued yellow warning of very heavy rain along with thunderstorm and lightning for several districts in Odisha on Tuesday while predicting an increase in the intensity of the rain spells during the subsequent two days.

Yellow Warning
Heavy Rainfall (7 to 11cm) is likely at one or two places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh, Boudh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Kandhamal, Sundargarh and Kendrapada.
Thunderstorm with lightning may occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Kandhamal, Balangir and Kalahandi.

Orange Warning
Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) may occur at one or two places in Angul, Keonjhar, Boudh, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Bolangir, Bargarh, Kalahandi and Kandhamal
Yellow Warning
Heavy Rainfall (7 to 11cm) also likely at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Nuapada, Sundargarh, and Ganjam.
SEPTEMBER 21
Orange Warning
Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is likely at one or two places in Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Bargarh, Jharsuguda and Sundargarh.
Yellow Warning
Heavy Rainfall (7 to 11cm) may occur at one or two places in Nabarangpur, Koraput, Kandhamal, Boudh, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.
According to SOA’s Centre for Environment and Climate (CEC), moderate to heavy rainfall may occur at most places of coastal, north and west Odisha on September 19 and 20 under the influence of the circulation and the low pressure area. The system is expected to shift to neighbouring Chhattisgarh from September 20 night, the bulletin added.
