Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday issued heavy rainfall warning in most parts of Odisha under the influence of a low-pressure which is going to form over the north and the west-central Bay of Bengal in next 24 hours.
In a mid-day bulletin, the IMD said under the influence of a cyclonic circulation over the north-west Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood, a low-pressure area will form over the north and adjoining west Central Bay Bengal by in next 24 hours which will trigger heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places across the state. The rainfall activity will continue for five days till August 12.
In view of the heavy rainfall, IMD has issued yellow and orange warning in the following districts:
August 8
(Yellow warning)
Heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Puri, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, Balangir, Bargarh, Boudh, Kandhamal and Koraput.
Thunderstorm with lightning at one or two places over the districts of Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Khurda, Ganjam, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.
August 9
(Yellow warning)
Heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Koraput and Gajapati.
Heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Rayagada, Malkangiri, Ganjam, Balangir and Bargarh.
August 10
(Orange warning)
Heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Balangir, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nuapada.
Extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Kalahandi, Nabarangpur and Koraput.
Yellow warning
Heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Rayagada, Nayagarh, Boudh, Gajapati and Bargarh.
August 11
(Orange warning)
Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur and Nuapada.
Yellow warning
Heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Balangir, Sonepur, Boudh and Sambalpur.
August 12
(Yellow warning)
Heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Bargarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Boudh.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the deep sea area of the west-central Bay of Bengal between August 9 and 11 as strong monsoon current and surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph will make the sea condition very rough.
